The Power of Choice

The power of choice. I can't say it any better.

Cherokee Wisdom:
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a
battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son,
The battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope,
serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence,
empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute
and then asked his grandfather,

"Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Native American Wisdom and Quotes

The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Wakan-Taka (the Great Spirit), and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.
This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is known that true peace, which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.
- Black Elk - Oglala Sioux

"Peace and happiness are available in every moment. Peace is in every step. We shall walk hand in hand. There are no political solutions to spiritual problems.
- An Indian Chief, 1876

Do not grieve. Misfortunes will happen to the wisest and best of men. Death will come, always out of season. It is the command of the Great Spirit, and all nations and people must obey. What is past and what cannot be prevented should not be grieved for ... Misfortunes do not flourish particularly in our lives - they grow everywhere.
- Big Elk - Omaha Chief

The Great Spirit is in all things, he is in the air we breathe. The Great Spirit is our Father, but the Earth is our Mother. She nourishes us, that which we put into the ground she returns to us....
- Big Thunder (Bedagi) - Wabanaki Alonquin

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
- Crowfoot - Blackfoot Chief

CHIEF SEATTLE'S LETTER
"The President in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky? the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them?
Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people.
We know the sap which courses through the trees as we know the blood that courses through our veins. We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters. The bear, the deer, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the dew in the meadow, the body heat of the pony, and man all belong to the same family.
The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each glossy reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father.
The rivers are our brothers. They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give the rivers the kindness that you would give any brother.
If we sell you our land, remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life that it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also received his last sigh. The wind also gives our children the spirit of life. So if we sell our land, you must keep it apart and sacred, as a place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow flowers.
Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth.
This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
One thing we know: our God is also your God. The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator.
Your destiny is a mystery to us. What will happen when the buffalo are all slaughtered? The wild horses tamed? What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted with talking wires? Where will the thicket be? Gone! Where will the eagle be? Gone! And what is to say goodbye to the swift pony and then hunt? The end of living and the beginning of survival.
When the last red man has vanished with this wilderness, and his memory is only the shadow of a cloud moving across the prairie, will these shores and forests still be here? Will there be any of the spirit of my people left?
We love this earth as a newborn loves its mother's heartbeat. So, if we sell you our land, love it as we have loved it. Care for it, as we have cared for it. Hold in your mind the memory of the land as it is when you receive it. Preserve the land for all children, and love it, as God loves us.
As we are part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you.
One thing we know - there is only one God. No man, be he Red man or White man, can be apart. We ARE all brothers after all."

How smooth must be the language of the whites, when they can make right look like wrong, and wrong look like right.
- Black Hawk

We have men among us, like the whites, who pretend to know the right path, but will not consent to show it without pay! I have no faith in their paths, but believe that every man must make his own path!
- Black Hawk - Sauk

I cured with the power that came through me. Of course, it was not I who cured, it was the power from the Outer World, the visions and the ceremonies had only made me like a hole through which the power could come to the two-leggeds." "If I thought that I was doing it myself, the hole would close up and no power could come through. Then everything I could do would be foolish.
- Black Elk - Oglala Sioux

You who are so wise must know that different nations have different conception of things. You will not therefore take it amiss if our ideas of the white man's kind of education happens not to be the same as yours. We have had some experience of it.
Several of our young people were brought up in your colleges. They were instructed in all your sciences; but, when they came back to us, they were all bad runners, ignorant of every means of living in the woods, unable to bear either cold or hunger. They didn't know how to build a cabin, take a deer, or kill an enemy. They spoke our language imperfectly.
They were therefore unfit to be hunters, warriors, or counsellors; they were good for nothing.
We are, however, not the less obliged for your kind offer, though we decline accepting it. To show our gratefulness, if the gentleman of Virginia shall send us a dozen of their sons, we will take great care with their education, instruct them in all we know, and make men of them.

Random Thoughts

OK. I'm not going to say who because I don't want to call anyone out but the other night I was watching a show on the History Channel about Ancient Greece and the Greek Mythologies with a friend. Regarding their ancient religious beliefs, she commented and said "isn't it just amazing what they believed back then (as truth).?" She was implying how wrong and misguided they were to which I replied "hello, fast forward to a hundred or a thousand years from now and that is what people will be saying about the religions of today." Some of us already are saying that about the religions of today. :-)

I have had a few conversations lately with friends whom I have known for a few years only to find out a great misconception they have of me. This happened on two or three occasions with different friends. I mentioned that I was experiencing a down time and feeling a little depressed in general and they were shocked that I could experience such moments. This in turn shocked me that they thought I never entered this state. While I am glad that they perceive me as a happy, cheerful, positive, and outgoing person, I realized that they did not have a realistic perception of me. The reality is that I am not always happy and positive. I have my moments of frustration, doubt, worry, and feeling blue just like everyone else. My family and childhood friends can attest to this. I just choose not to stay in that place for too long. Let me tell you, happy, cheerful, positive people aren't that way all the time. They just understand that those states are temporary and that this too shall pass. They don't let the bad stuff hold them down for too long. They know to allow the process of the experience whether it is anger, frustration, sadness, stress, etc. to flow through them so that they can process, evaluate, and release the emotions in order to heal and move on. The quicker you face what you are feeling the sooner you can let it go. So it is best not to suppress or sit on your feelings for too long or to be in denial of them because this is what leads to depression. The longer you wait to face and release your negative emotions is just time wasted that you could have already let them go and moved on to the positive. This is what happy people know, they know to find the positive side of it and then let it go and keep moving forward.

The Dance

I see the creative hand designing from the stars. The stars are sparkly, luminous, and beautiful. The creative hand puts the stars on feathered wings and positions the wings into the shape of a heart. The stars multiply and become the grand design of love. Then the great ballroom is created. I see the golden strands connecting man and woman to the sky, to universal love as they are created from the stars. The men and women dance in the ballroom, their golden strands intertwining, luminous and glowing. They dance with one another to the dance of life, the dance of universal love.

Using your Intuition

To learn how to tune into your own intuition and the universal consciousness you just have to quiet your mind, listen and then pay attention. If I am meant to receive some information, it will come to me through many ways. Sometimes it is a book screaming to me to read it from a bookshelf because there is something in it that I need to read. It may be the whole book or it may only be a chapter, a paragraph or one sentence but if it is screaming at me to pick it up, then I do. Sometimes, an object screams to me for other people too as when I am buying a gift for someone. I am guided to what might aid them on their own journey. Sometimes, it is a movie, an object, or a rock. Sometimes, it is a location or person that I am guided to. If I am meant to receive information from a person, then our paths will cross at the necessary time that I need to receive the information or maybe I have information for them. I have even received the answer to my question or the information I was seeking through the mail or a television show. It is the law of attraction in action. Ask and it is given. If I think of something, usually within the same day or the next day the answer will show up. I also receive information and messages in my dreams as well as voice messages in my head that are loud and clear. Whether you want to call it my inner voice, my Angels and Spirit Guides, my higher self, a sixth sense or psychic abilities doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what you call it or label it, just know to listen and trust it (as long as you are mentally balanced and not mentally ill/mentally imbalanced and coming from a dark place). You just have to be willing and open to receiving it. You will learn to differentiate when it is truly your inner guidance and when it is your logical, intellectual mind. If you are too much in your mind and not in the quiet space of your heart and your knowing then it will not work. All you have to do is tune in and listen. It is very simple. Everybody has these capabilities or gifts. We are all intuitive. How many times have you known who was calling you before picking up the telephone, or known to move over in traffic before someone else even veered into your lane where they would have hit you if you had not moved over? How many times have you known what someone was about to say or what they were thinking before they even opened their mouth? How many times have you had a "bad feeling" about a person or situation only later to learn that this saved your life or at least kept you from dealing with some bad juju created by another person? How many times have you just "known" something about someone or some situation (good or bad) without being told, later to find out you were correct? These are all examples of using your intuition. Women call it women's intuition or mother's intuition and men tend to call it a gut feeling or a hunch. Some call it a sixth sense. No matter what you call it, listen to it. We all possess this and benefit from tuning into it. It has always been the times that I chose not to listen to it and dismissed it that have not turned out well for me. These are times I regret but you live and learn. I never ignore its guidance anymore. So quiet your mind and just tap into it. We all have a direct line.

A good example of how we are all one and connected is the experiment done by James Twyman in the movie "The Proof." which I have included below for your viewing. There are many good spiritual movies out there. Some of my favorites are:
What the Bleep do we Know?, The Secret, Waking Life, The Shift, Mindwalk.

Not all of these are about intuition. Some are about the illusion of our reality, law of attraction, etc. but they are all good. There are also many mainstream and independent films out there with spiritual messages interwoven into them. Some of my favorites of these are: Chocolat, Under the Tuscan Sun, Whale Rider, The Blue Butterfly, The Grass Harp, Harold & Maude, Field of Dreams, Love Actually, Because of Winn Dixie, Touch, Dreamkeeper, Michael, Uncorked, The Darjeeling Limited and many, many more. Even Star Wars has the message of "tap into the force", "use the force", "the force is with you."

Ancient cultures and many cultures still today have always known the value of dreams, visions and intuition and use them in their everyday lives. This is the norm for them. It is not seen as strange or weird because everyone uses it. They also know to value everyones intuition and not to dismiss it as is commonly done in our culture. A lot of people in the western world still think of this as strange or weird and try to dismiss it, however, this is quickly changing. This is based on their fears. If people think you are crazy, then good. This means that you are tuned in and in the zone; the intuition zone. These are our god given gifts and there is no need to fear them. It is the guidance of the divine universal energy, so why would you fear it? I have never feared these abilities within myself and so do not understand why others choose to ignore these gifts within themselves and deny their gifts from the Universe/God. We have them for a reason. We are supposed to be tapping in and using them. It is like the Universe/God throwing you a life preserver when you are drowning and you refusing to grab it and refusing to trust that it is there to help you. I do not understand this but it is their choice and their journey. If they choose to make it more difficult, then that is up to them.

On a subconscious level everyone of us are constantly tuning into and interacting with the energies all around us all of the time. Once you choose to understand that you are already and have always been tuned in and decide to become consciously aware of this, you will be open to receiving this energy of inner wisdom and guidance. You will understand that you are tapping into the energy fields of everything and everyone around you. You are tapping into the divine energy of all that is. You can tap into the energies of the people, the trees, the animals, the water, the earth, rocks and sky because we are all one. You will understand the interconnectedness of all things seen and unseen. You will grasp the concept that we are all one and that our differences and separateness is all just an illusion that we have created. So tune into whatever channel you want to, just remember not to interrupt this program. :)

Some Favorite Quotes

“One day you will awaken to discover that your life is all you wanted and hoped it would be. You will not find everything just the way your head said you wanted it. It might not be the way you planned, but you will awaken to your dreams; your dreams of joy, love, and peace; your dream of freedom. You’ll see beyond the illusions. You’ll transcend your old, limiting beliefs. You’ll wake up and notice that your past was just as it needed to be. You will see where you are today is good. You’ll look at tomorrow with peace, faith, and hope, knowing that while you cannot control some of what life does, you have possibilities and powers in any circumstance life might bring. The struggle you have lived with for so many years, the struggle in your heart, has disappeared. You’re secure; at peace with yourself and your place in this world. One day you will awaken to your heart’s contentment. Let that day be today.”
